Snow Accumulation Estimates Released For Saturday's Bomb Cyclone Storm In CT

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for five counties in Connecticut. Here are all the new updates.

CONNECTICUT — A "bomb cyclone" has led to the issuance of a winter weather advisory for five counties in Connecticut and some parts of the state could see up to six inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy rain early Saturday will change to snow throughout the state on Saturday afternoon and a winter weather advisory has been issued for Fairfield, Litchfield, Hartford, and Tolland counties, along with northern sections of New Haven County.

A wind advisory has been issued for coastal sections of New Haven County, and for all of Middlesex and New London counties. A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for Windham County.

Southern Fairfield

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday. Snow expected, along with the refreezing of wet surfaces. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.

"Temperatures will fall quickly during the day Saturday resulting in a quick freezing, some standing water resulting in difficult travel," the weather service said.

Forecast details:

Saturday: Rain before noon, then snow. The rain and snow could be heavy at times. Temperature falling to around 26 by 5pm. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Windy, with a light and variable wind becoming northwest 21 to 26 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 19. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. Windy, with a west wind 18 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph.


Northern sections of Fairfield and New Haven counties

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday. Snow expected, along with the refreezing of wet surfaces. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

"Temperatures will fall quickly during the day Saturday resulting in a quick freezing of any standing water resulting in difficult travel," the weather service said.

Forecast details:

Saturday: Rain before noon, then snow. The rain and snow could be heavy at times. Temperature rising to near 41 by 8am, then falling to around 24 during the remainder of the day. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Windy, with a light and variable wind becoming northwest 21 to 26 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. Wind chill values between zero and 5. Breezy, with a west wind 16 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.


Coastal sections of New Haven County and all of Middletown and New London counties

A wind advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday until midnight. Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to around 45 mph expected.

"In addition to the wind, rain will change over to snow by Saturday afternoon before ending. At least a coating of snow is expected for most areas. As temperatures drop below freezing by late afternoon into the evening, refreezing is possible on some surfaces, creating the potential for hazardous travel," the weather service said.

Saturday: Rain before 1pm, then snow. The rain could be heavy at times. Temperature rising to near 42 by 8am, then falling to around 25 during the remainder of the day. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Breezy, with a light and variable wind becoming northwest 19 to 24 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Saturday Night: Snow likely, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. Blustery, with a west wind 13 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.


Hartford and Tolland County

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday. Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. "A brief period of snowfall rates up to one inch per hour are possible, especially late morning into early afternoon Saturday," the weather service said.

Forecast details:

Saturday: Rain before noon, then snow. Temperature rising to near 40 by 10am, then falling to around 26 during the remainder of the day. Light north wind becoming northwest 13 to 18 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday Night: A chance of snow, mainly before 8pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 18. West wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.


Hartford/Tolland/Windham County:

Strong northwest winds gusting to 40 to 50 mph are possible Saturday night into Sunday, which could result in minor wind damage such as some downed branches or wires, the weather service said.


Litchfield County

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday. Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Snow rates may exceed an inch an hour during the late morning into the afternoon on Saturday.

Forecast details:

Saturday: Rain before 10am, then rain and snow between 10am and noon, then snow after noon. Temperature falling to around 25 by 5pm. Breezy, with a light north wind becoming northwest 15 to 20 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 39 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Saturday Night: A chance of snow before 7pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 7pm and 10pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 16. West wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
