CT Weather: Heavy Snow Bands May Mean A Foot Of Snow Friday

The National Weather Service has now issued warnings for several parts of Connecticut. Here's the latest on the heavy snow bands.

CONNECTICUT — The thinking was that most of the state would see three to four inches of snow by Friday morning, and some places are already reporting ten inches of snow.

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for all of southern Connecticut, which explains why snow totals in many areas have far surpassed expectations.

"Doppler radar is indicating bands of heavy snowfall located across the area which will continue for the next few hours," the weather service said in a 4:30 a.m. update. "Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are likely within these bands. This will result in hazardous travel on any untreated surfaces. Visibilities in these snow bands are also reduced to around one half mile. If you must travel early this morning, allow extra time."

The heavy snow bands should diminish around 9 a.m. Many areas in Connecticut will see well over six inches and possibly up to a foot of snow now. Another couple of inches may accumulate up until mid-morning statewide.

Winter storm warnings and advisories remain in effect for the entire state.
