Snow Accumulation Estimates Significantly Rise, Blizzard Conditions Possible

A blizzard warning has been issued for parts of Connecticut, as a powerful nor'easter may produce 1-2 feet of snow Saturday.

CONNECTICUT — Up to two feet of snow may accumulate by the end of Saturday due to the impacts of a powerful nor'easter.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for New London County and a winter storm warning for the remainder of the state. Heavy snow is forecast all day Saturday, and the snow is expected to begin after midnight. Winds could gust up to 60 mph at times on Saturday.

The most snow is forecast for eastern parts of the state, but a majority of the state may see a foot or more of snow. Snowfall rates of 1-2 inches an hour are likely, the weather service cautions.

Fairfield County

Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Near blizzard conditions are possible for a period on Saturday.


New Haven, Middlesex County

Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 9 to 14 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph. Near blizzard conditions are possible for a period on Saturday.


New London County

Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations of 11 to 15 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. Strong winds could cause tree damage. Blizzard conditions are expected Saturday morning into early Saturday afternoon. White out conditions are likely at times.


Hartford, Tolland and Windham County

Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 15 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph....snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour is possible at times.


Litchfield County

Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph leading to blowing and drifting snow. The best chance for the higher snowfall accumulations will be across southeastern parts of the county.
