CT Weather: Snow, Sleet And Rain Forecast On Saturday

The National Weather Service said winter weather advisories may need to be issued for parts of Connecticut on Saturday.

CONNECTICUT — It certainly won't be the storm of the century, but many areas of Connecticut will be dealing with a period of snow and ice on Saturday which could cause some travel issues.

Areas along the immediate coast will likely see mostly plain rain, with some sleet mixing in at times. Precipitation will be falling most of the day Saturday, and then it turns dry and colder on Sunday.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for interior sections of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties for the chance of snow and ice on Saturday.

The weather service said of interior southern Connecticut: "A low pressure system will bring a light wintry mix of sleet and snow to the region Saturday morning into Saturday afternoon, transitioning to freezing rain and rain Saturday evening. There is potential for less than an inch of snow and sleet accumulation, and a light glazing of ice."

In Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties, the weather service said, "Snow/sleet that develops south of the MA Turnpike should transition to all sleet/rain later Saturday or Saturday evening. A total snow/sleet accumulations of a coating to 2 inches appears reasonable at this time in areas south of the MA Turnpike."

"A light glaze of ice accretion is also possible across portions of the interior...particularly in the higher terrain given marginal surface temps in the 30 to 34 degree range," the weather service said of northern Connecticut. "As the previous forecast mentioned, any light icing will fall on top of the earlier snow/sleet. This is better than when light freezing rain falls on bare untreated roads. Regardless, do expect some slippery travel especially inland from the immediate coast."

The weather service said winter weather advisories may be needed for northern sections of Connecticut.

In Litchfield County, the weather service said to expect a "light accumulation of snow and sleet transitioning to freezing rain and or plain rain for areas mainly south of Albany." A winter weather advisory may be needed here too.

It's looking like a chilly week ahead with temperatures only in the upper 30s during the day and in the teens at night.
