Timeline For Thunderstorms, Strong Wind Gusts Released For CT

The National Weather Service has released a timeline for when we may see thunderstorms in Connecticut on Monday.

CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has released its timeline for the chance of thunderstorms and strong wind gusts for Connecticut on Monday.

The weather service said rain showers are forecast after 4 p.m. and thunderstorms are possible from 4-10 p.m. The greatest chance for severe weather is just off to our southwest, especially in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

A wind advisory has been issued for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties until 5 a.m. Tuesday. West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. A wind advisory is in effect for Litchfield County until 7 a.m. Tuesday. West winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph is expected, the weather service said.

And a wind advisory has been issued for southern Connecticut until 4 a.m. Tuesday with southwest winds 15 to 25 mph and with gusts up to 50 mph, shifting to the northwest, the weather service said.

Fox 61 meteorologist Ryan Breton wrote on Twitter that the weather service "now includes southern New England in a marginal (level 1/5) risk for severe weather this evening. Could be a few thunderstorms with strong wind gusts. Timing generally 6pm-midnight." (See more at Fox 61).

Once the unsettled weather ends late Monday, we'll see sunshine and temperatures falling back into the mid 40s on Tuesday. More rain showers are possible Wednesday, and it will remain chilly, with high temperatures only into the low 40s.

We can expect foggy conditions on Thursday morning and then partly sunny skies with temperatures reaching into the upper 40s. More rain is forecast for Friday and Saturday too, with high temperatures crashing back into the upper 30s on Sunday.

Today: Showers likely, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. South wind 9 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 10pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 35. Southwest wind 13 to 18 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 46. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Tuesday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 30. Light and variable wind.

Wednesday: A slight chance of snow before 10am, then a slight chance of rain and snow between 10am and 11am, then a chance of rain after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 43. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
