Discarded Mementos at St. Mary's Cemetery Sparks Outrage: Report

Some families with loved ones buried there are angry that some mementos have been removed from graves, but officials say it was for safety.

MILFORD, CT — Family members with loved ones buried at St. Mary Cemetery are outraged that some gravesite mementos have been removed from graves and discarded, the New Haven Register's Pamela McLoughlin reports.

But the cemetery's superintendent says only broken items were tossed out and he even left the discarded items near a dumpster so people could retrieve them.

The church wants to improve the aesthetics of the cemetry and also ensure broken mementos don't injure the staff, the Register reports. Some staff have been injured by the broken mementos, officials told the Register.
