Former Milford Firefighter Sentenced, Avoids Jail: Report
The sentence was handed down earlier this month.
MILFORD, CT — In August, Matthew LaVecchia was found guilty of assaulting a man in a restaurant bathroom last year, the Connecticut Post reported then. And now comes word that LaVecchia won't serve jail time as he was sentenced to three years of probation, the Connecticut Post report.
LaVecchia told the Judge that “I am very remorseful,” and the victim in the case did seek jail time for the former firefighter, the CT Post reports.
At the time of the arrest, Milford Police released the following information to the news media:

"Police said they took custody of Matthew Lavecchia, 33, of Naugatuck Avenue on an arrest warrant on Valentine's Day (2018). He is accused of "repeatedly punching another male in the face while in the bathroom" of a Broad Street restaurant on Feb. 3, 2018. He was charged with second-degree breach of peace and third-degree assault.
Lavecchia was fired from his job after the arrest, the Post reports. The CT Post reports that the victim suffered a broken nose and concussion.

Numerous supporters of LaVecchia attended the sentencing and the Judge noted, via the CT Post, that “There are people who have wakes who don’t have as many people there."
