Have You Seen This Man? Man Wanted in Connection to Double Shooting, Robbery in Milford

Milford police are asking for your help in finding the second suspect in connection with a double shooting and robbery in downtown.

Milford police said Tuesday they know who is the second suspect in a double shooting and attempted robbery that occurred downtown early on March 1, and are asking the public for assistance in finding the man.

Police spokesman Sgt. Jeffrey Nielsen said the department holds an active arrest warrant for the second suspect, Daniel “DJ” Spencer, 22, who fled the scene of the robbery. His last known address is 4 Avon Street in Ansonia.

Spencer and Rumone Richard, 23, of 268 Wayne Street in Bridgeport, are accused of attempting to ambush and rob a group of residents who were returning from a night out. The incident occurred inside the parking garage at 1 New Haven Avenue.

Richard allegedly fired a shot and hit one of the residents, and another person, a victim, pulled his gun, and shot Richard injuring him. Richard was apprehended at the scene while Spencer fled.

Spencer is a popular individual in the local law enforcement world as there are seven additional arrest warrants for him for unreleased incidents in other Connecticut communities.

Background on the downtown double shooting and robbery

Police said the incident began at 1:32 a.m. March 1 at the parking garage at 1 New Haven Avenue.

“Investigation revealed that a group of people had left Eli’s Tavern located at 21 Daniel Street and were walking into a parking garage at 1 New Haven Avenue when approached by two male suspects,” said Police spokesman Sgt. Jeffrey Nielsen. “The suspects demanded the group give them their personal belongings as one of the suspects pointed a handgun at the group.

“The armed suspect discharged the firearm, striking one of the group members in the neck while continuing to point the firearm at the group,” Nielsen said. “In self- defense, another person in the group removed his licensed firearm and returned fire, striking the armed suspect. The second suspect fled the scene on foot.”

Police said they recovered two guns at the crime scene.

Both the suspect and the victim were transported to a local hospital. The victim was treated for his injuries and later released. The wounded suspect, Richard, 23 was in critical condition. Richard was held on $500,000 and charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, four counts of criminal attempt to commit first-degree robbery, and other charges.
