CT Weather: Tropical Storm Fred Remnants To Impact State Thursday

The remnants of Tropical Storm Fred are expected to have significant impacts on Connecticut. Here are the latest forecast updates.

CONNECTICUT — The remnants of Tropical Storm Fred are expected to bring heavy rain, flooding concerns and possibly a tornado to Connecticut on Thursday. A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the entire state in advance of the storm's expected impacts on the state late Wednesday, Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service said for Fairfield County that "heavy rainfall from the remnants of Fred may bring localized flash flooding late tonight into Thursday morning. An isolated tornado is also possible."

For New Haven, Middlesex and New London county, the weather service said the "remnants of Fred may bring locally heavy rainfall along with an isolated tornado late tonight into Thursday morning."

In southern Connecticut, the weather service said an inch or two of rain is possible and flash flood watches may need to be issued.

For Hartford, Tolland and Windham county, the weather service said "there is a low risk of urban and small stream flooding Thursday..." Additionally, "Tropical Storm Henri is forecast to pass well offshore this weekend, but could still bring high surf and rip currents to ocean beaches. Minor coastal flooding is also possible."

And in Litchfield County, the weather service said, "There is a chance of thunderstorms tonight associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred. There is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms with isolated damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. In addition, locally heavy rainfall is possible, along with urban and poor drainage flooding."

WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons said we should expect some "rough weather early tomorrow morning!"

"From midnight tonight through 10 AM tomorrow morning, we could have some severe thunderstorms and some tropical downpours!" Simmons added. "Friday looks good then all eyes will be on future hurricane Henri! This looks to get closer to New England on Sunday! We all need to watch this closely!"

Today: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. South wind 3 to 7 mph.

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 85. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Friday: A slight chance of showers before 8am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
