The National Weather Service issued an updated advisory concerning some incoming stormy weather. Here are the forecast details.

SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — A hazardous weather outlook has been issued by the National Weather Service for southern Connecticut as a rainstorm approaches Tuesday. A wind advisory is also in effect for a portion of the region.

Heavy rain moves in tonight and it will be at its heaviest in the overnight hours before tapering off late Wednesday morning. A much-needed 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected.

The weather will improve dramatically Wednesday afternoon and evening.

A Wind Advisory is in effect from midnight to 6 a.m. Wednesday. Showers ahead of an approaching cold front late today and tonight could be heavy, with localized urban and poor drainage flooding possible.


Northern Middlesex-Northern New London-Southern New Haven-Southern Middlesex-Southern New London

A Wind Advisory is in effect from midnight to 6 a.m. Wednesday. South winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.


Northern Fairfield-Northern New Haven-Southern Fairfield

Showers ahead of an approaching cold front this afternoon and tonight could be heavy, with localized urban and poor drainage flooding possible.

"A cold front will slowly approach from the west today. Tropical moisture streaming in from the south well in advance of the front will result in some afternoon showers, some of which could be
moderate to locally heavy. A more widespread heavy rainfall is expected tonight as the front moves across, as well as gusty south winds, especially across Long Island and southern Connecticut.

"The front will pass east early Wednesday, with showers coming to an end, and dry conditions returning for later Wednesday into Wednesday night."

Showers likely, mainly after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. Southeast wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tonight
Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Steady temperature around 69. Southeast wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Wednesday
Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 11am, then a chance of showers. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Wednesday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 55. West wind 7 to 10 mph.
