The company acquired seven weekly papers that are primarily in southwestern Connecticut.

Hearst announced Thursday that it has acquired seven weekly newspapers from Hersam Acorn Newspapers. The Ridgefield Press, Wilton Bulletin, New Canaan Advertiser, Darien Times, Shelton Herald, Trumbull Times and Milford Mirror are among the acquisitions.

The move will leave Hearst with eight daily newspapers, 20 weeklies and 21 websites in Connecticut, according to an announcement from the company. Its largest local papers are the New Haven Register, Connecticut Post and Stamford Advocate.
