Juvenile Waved Pellet Gun Around Silver Sands Beach: Milford PD

A juvenile was charged after he waved a pellet gun around the Milford beach, police said. He also was on school property with the gun.

MILFORD, CT — A juvenile was charged after he waved a gel pellet gun around Silver Sands beach Wednesday, alarming beach goers, according to police.

The juvenile was also seen with the gun at Jonathan Law High School the prior day, and another person reported seeing a person with a Tommy gun on Harrison Avenue Wednesday, police said.

The Silver Sands incident occurred the day after the Robb Elementary School shooting in Texas, which left 19 children and two teachers dead.

Police went to Silver Sands beach Wednesday around 2:30 p.m. on a report of a juvenile waving a gun around the beach area. Officers located the juvenile, who had the gun raised over his head with a finger on the trigger. Officers ordered the juvenile to drop the gun, which he did, police said.
Witnesses told police they were alarmed by the juvenile, who pointed the gun in several directions while walking on the beach.

Earlier in the day, police got a call from a resident who said a juvenile was walking around the Harrison Avenue area around 7 a.m. carrying a tommy gun with a round magazine; the call was made a couple hours after the resident saw the juvenile. Police checked the area and reviewed video doorbell footage, but weren't able to locate the juvenile.

The school resource officer at Jonathan Law High School was alerted by the school about a suspicious incident that occurred Tuesday around 3 p.m. A juvenile was on school property carrying what looked like a paintball or airsoft gun. The incident wasn't reported to police or school authorities until Wednesday.

The school resource officer reviewed surveillance video and recognized the juvenile as a former student. The juvenile walked around the school, baseball fields and behind the building with what appeared to be an airsoft gun.

The juvenile was issued a summons and charged with second-degree breach of peace and carrying a dangerous weapon for the Silver Sands incident. He was also charged with carrying a weapon on school property for the Jonathan Law incident.
