Labor Day Tragedy: Connecticut Teen, 16, Drowns
The West Haven teen was swimming with his girlfriend when he apparently drowned.

One Connecticut community is grieving today after news surfaced that Alejandro Zitalpopca, 16, of West Haven drowned on Labor Day, numerous media outlets are reporting.
Alejandro was at Bradley Point Beach in West Haven with his family and girlfriend on Labor Day when he decided to go for a swim with his girlfriend, WFSB 3 reports.
On the way back, Alejandro disappeared, and a mass search for him continued for three hours until his body was discovered off short in about three feet of water, WFSB reports.

Extra staff, school counselors and psychologists will be present at West Haven High School to assist students with emotional support.
West Haven’s superintendent released a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Alejandro’s family and friends and we cannot imagine how heartbroken they must be,” said Neil C. Cavallaro, superintendent according to WFSB 3. “We’re devastated to see a student from our district pass away.”
