Connecticut is expecting to break weather records today and then all of a sudden things will change quickly. Here are all the new details.

(Patch Graphic )

CONNECTICUT — It looks like we're going to break some records today in Connecticut. Record heat and temps are expected by this afternoon but then all of a sudden the heat and warmth will evaporate and temps will be free-falling this evening.

Along the way, showers and thunderstorms are also possible and will help usher in a cold front that will drop temps from the 80s into the 50s for Thursday. More rain is expected on Thursday.

As of right now the weekend looks ok, with some sun and temps in the 60s on Saturday to possibly 70 on Sunday. Rain is expected Sunday night, hopefully it holds off until later in the day.

The National Weather Service says, "The heat and humidity will build on Wednesday with the likelihood for record breaking temperatures across parts of the area. Highs will rise into the mid to upper 80s for much of the region, potentially touching 90 degrees in and around the NYC/NJ metro area.

"However, a cold front will sink southward from the north will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon into early evening. In the wake of the front, gusty northeast winds
will usher in significantly cooler temperatures. Chilly conditions are expected Thursday, with cloudy skies, an increasing chance of showers, gusty easterly winds, and highs generally holding in the 50s to around 60 degrees."

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said, "A warm weather day today! High temperatures reaching into the 80s briefly midday today before some thunderstorms cool it down for the afternoon and evening. Take your umbrella! I’m expecting temperatures to only make it into the 50s for highs during the day tomorrow! Some spotty drizzle tomorrow and some rain on Thursday night will clear out for some sun and 60° on Friday. Right now the weekend is looking OK!"
