Man Accepts Plea Deal In Ax Murder Of Milford Mom: Reports

A man pleaded guilty to a murder charge and will serve decades in prison, according to reports.

MILFORD, CT — A man accused of killing the mother of his son with an ax agreed to a plea deal and will serve 40 years in prison, News 12 Connecticut reported.

Ewen Dewitt, 44, of Roxbury, pleaded guilty to murder and risk of injury to a child in the death of Julie Minogue, 40, a Milford mom of three.

Minogue had a full no-contact restraining order against him after receiving threatening text messages. Minogue and Dewitt were in a prior dating relationship, according to police.

Officers went to a Salem Walk residence Dec. 6, 2022, after getting a 911 call from Minogue's son reporting that she was being assaulted by a man, police said.

“The first arriving officers cleared the residence and discovered that the suspect had fled prior to their arrival,” police said in a statement. “The victim was found deceased inside the home.”

Dewitt had previously been offered a plea deal that called for him to serve 45 years in prison, according to News 12 Connecticut. He rejected that deal and chose to go to trial.

A judge said the prison sentence was reduced to 40 years in the new deal to avoid having Minogue's 19-year-old son testify in a trial, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.
