Man Charged With Driving Wrong-Way On Route 15 In Milford: Police
Another driver crashed into a guardrail while attempting to avoid a collision, police said.
MILFORD, CT — A man is facing charges that he drove the wrong way on Route 15 early Thursday morning, according to state police.
Carlos Ferreira, 59, of Fairfield, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle under suspension, and possession of a controlled substance.
Troop-I Bethany received 911 calls reporting a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Route 15 northbound, in the area of Exit 55 in Milford on Thursday at 1:55 a.m., state police said. Callers said the car was driving southbound in the northbound lanes.

Troopers from both Troop G –Bridgeport and Troop I responded to Route 15. Shortly after receiving the initial 911 calls, Troop G received a report of a motor vehicle accident on Route 15 near the Milford/Orange line, state police said.
The accident involved a vehicle traveling northbound that allegedly swerved to avoid a collision with the wrong-way driver and struck a guardrail, according to state police. The driver in the guardrail crash did not report any injuries.

The wrong-way car, a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, continued southbound until troopers were able to stop the car in the left lane south of the Sikorsky Bridge in Stratford, state police said.
Troopers said they found Ferreira was in possession of drugs, and he was "consistent in appearance with narcotics."
There was also a warrant out for his arrest, and Ferreira was charged with second-degree failure to appear, state police said.
He was held on a combined $3,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Thursday.
