Milford Board Takes Action On Car Dealership Proposal

A developer is pitching the project for a long-vacant property on Boston Post Road.

MILFORD, CT — The Milford Planning and Zoning Board has approved plans for a new auto dealership at 1469 Boston Post Road, clearing the way for redevelopment of a property that has been vacant since a building there was damaged by fire.

The board voted unanimously to grant a special permit and site plan approval for the project, with conditions tied to engineering and access requirements.

Attorney Joe Porto, representing the applicant, said the proposal would replace the former burned-out structure with a new building for used car sales and vehicle service. Porto told the board the site had already been cleared and paved and would be connected to an existing Acura dealership next door.

Tim Houle, a civil engineer for BL Companies, presented details of the plan. He said the new building would be constructed on roughly the same footprint as the former structure and would include space for sales offices and service bays. Thirty-nine customer parking spaces would be provided on site, along with additional spaces for vehicle inventory.

Houle said access to the dealership would be from Boston Post Road, using an existing driveway. A separate internal driveway connection would link the site to the neighboring dealership to allow vehicles to be moved between properties without entering the roadway.

Board members asked questions about pedestrian access, snow storage, and how deliveries would be handled. Houle said new sidewalks would be installed to close gaps along Boston Post Road and Roses Mill Road. He also said snow would be stored on site when possible, with larger storms requiring snow to be removed.

City staff said the project complies with zoning requirements and would redevelop a previously damaged property without affecting nearby coastal resources.

The approval includes conditions requiring the applicant to follow city engineering recommendations and formalize the shared driveway connection with the neighboring dealership.
