Milford and Bridgeport Hospitals To Finally Merge: Report

MILFORD, CT — What has been rumored for more than five years is expected to finally come true as Milford Hospital will merge with Bridgeport Hospital, if approved by the state and federal government, according to media reports including the Connecticut Post.

Milford Hospital has been struggling financially for sometime and this move is expected to help. The merger could take some time, the CT Post reports. Milford Hospital President Joseph Pelaccia recently resigned his position, the Post adds. If the merger is approved, both hospitals will operate under one management system.

Milford Hospital has been hurt by a reduction in state aid and less patients over the years, which has made it remaining a standalone hospital almost impossible.
