Milford Cop Charged In Fatal Pedestrian Crash In Hamden: Police
The officer has been arrested for a crash that killed a woman who was struck while she was attempting to cross the street in Hamden.

HAMDEN, CT — A North Haven woman, who is also a Milford police officer, has been arrested in connection to a fatal accident that killed a pedestrian over the summer in Hamden. On July 20, 2018, Hamden Police responded to a report of a “pedestrian struck” on Dixwell Avenue, in the vicinity of Old Dixwell Avenue, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said investigation revealed that Kristin Wilczynski, 50, of North Haven, was attempting to cross the street when she was struck by a motor vehicle that was driven by Courtney Bothwell, 28, of North Haven. Bothwell was traveling southbound on Dixwell Avenue and was merging onto Old Dixwell Avenue when the accident occurred, according to Smith.
Hamden Police and Hamden Fire Department personnel rendered medical assistance to Wilczynski, who was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she died shortly thereafter, Smith said.

Officer Kevin Hall conducted an extensive investigation that led to the application of an arrest warrant for Bothwell.
Bothwell was arrested Jan. 2 and charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, failure to exercise due care to avoid colliding with a pedestrian and distracted driving/not cell. Bothwell, who was released on a written promise to appear, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 14.

Milford Police confirmed Thursday that Bothwell is a current officer in the department. She is listed as a Patrol Officer First Class on the department’s website.
