Milford Coronavirus Update: Courthouse Temporarily Closing
Officials say the courthouse is closing in an effort to help prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.
MILFORD, CT — Courthouses in Milford and Middletown are temporarily closing in an effort to help prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, officials announced Wednesday. The Ansonia-Milford Judicial District Courthouse in Milford and the Middlesex Judicial District Courthouse in Middletown will be closed effective at the close of business today (April 1), according to Chief Court Administrator Patrick L. Carroll III.
Carroll said he made the decision in a “further effort to secure the highest possible level of protection to the public and to the staff who work in our courthouses.” Carroll announced Tuesday that the Stamford Courthouse was temporarily closing after some employees may have been exposed to another employee who was exhibiting symptoms associated with the new coronavirus.
Cases from Ansonia-Milford will transfer to the Fairfield Judicial District courthouse located at 1061 Main St. in Bridgeport and cases from Middletown will transfer to the New Britain Judicial District courthouse located at 20 Franklin Square, according to Carroll. “A careful analysis of the business coming into these two courthouses indicates that they can be safely closed without compromising our ability to continue conducting our constitutionally mandated work at remaining, open, Judicial Branch locations,” Carroll said in a statement. “Our overarching goal remains the same: to protect our employees and members of the public from the further spread of the virus by keeping as few courthouses open as possible. Also, key to this plan is the continued practice of social distancing and limiting the number of people in our courthouses. Our work continues daily to provide the highest possible protection to the public and staff.”
