Milford Democrats, Republicans Announce Candidates

There will be a contested race for mayor this year in Milford as both sides announced their picks.

MILFORD, CT — There will be a mayoral race in Milford this year as Republicans have nominated Alderman Dan German who will oppose four-term incumbent Mayor Ben Blake, a Democrat.

Both parties met recently and approved a full slate of candidates with German and City Clerk Joanne Rohrig leading Republicans and Blake and City Clerk candidate Karen Fortunati leading the Democrats, the Milford Mirror reports.

Blake has repeatedly cited the fact that taxes have decreased over the past four years which is unprecedented and hundreds of new companies have opposed in the city. Blake has also touted the city's strong bond rating.

German, who is also running for reelection to the board of aldermen, vows to restore transparency to local government, which he said the Blake administration has been lacking in, according to the Mirror. German also said he would also address the ongoing affordable housing issues in Milford, and fix flooding and pothole concerns, the Mirror reports.

Democrats say Milford is thriving under Blake's leadership and Milford has been cited in numerous national publications including The New York Times for being one of the best places to live.
