The operator of the tractor trailer exited his rig and ran up to the driver of the passenger vehicle while it was stopped on the ramp. He struck the operator with an unknown object, causing a laceration to his face.

The tractor trailer operator then attempted to flee but the vehicle operator exited and chased the assailant while firing several rounds from a pistol. The rounds struck the tractor trailer operator in the face and arm, as well as the cab of the unit.

The wounded tractor trailer operator left the scene and drove past Exit 44 before pulling off into the median.

Sgt. Sciarretto responded and immediately provided medical care to the shooting victim. He bandaged the victim’s wounds to control the excessive bleeding to his arm and face.

Sgt Sciarretto was heard via his motor vehicle video/audio recording maintaining his composure and speaking to the frightened victim in a calm manner while providing the necessary treatment.

The victim was beginning to lose consciousness due to his blood loss. Sgt. Sciarretto continually assured him that he would be fine and would not allow him to go to sleep, which was an asset to responding medical personnel. Sgt. Sciaretto earned the Medal for Outstanding Service.
