Milford Firefighters Rescue Gopher Caught In Storm Drain
Firefighters used bolt cutters and extrication spreaders to allow the animal to escape the storm drain where it was trapped.

MILFORD, CT — One gopher is safer because of the efforts of the Milford Fire Department. Firefighters freed the animal after it got stuck in a storm drain.
Fire Battalion Chief and Public Information Officer Adam Hansen wrote in a Facebook post: "Earlier today, Squad 1 was called by Milford Animal Control to assist with freeing a stuck animal in a storm drain. Crews utilized bolt cutters and extrication spreaders to create enough space for the gofer to free itself. After briefly regaining its barring the gofer ran off to a safe area."
The incident occurred Thursday at City Carting at 221 Old Gate Lane.

Hansen added: “Going out for animal calls happens more frequently than one would expect. We take them very seriously, not only for the love and caring of the animals but to protect the public as well. Everyone loves animals. If we don’t respond to assist/rescue the animal, we know that a citizen will. You always hear about people putting themselves in danger to save animals. This is exactly what we are trying to avoid.”
