Milford Man Accused Of Intentionally Hitting Woman With Car: Reports

A man is accused of speeding across a parking lot and striking his fiancé​e intentionally, according to reports.

STRATFORD, CT — A Milford man is accused of intentionally hitting his fiancée with his car in the parking lot of a Stratford Walmart on Tuesday morning. Police are calling it a domestic-related case, according to NBC CT.

Anthony Assad, 34, was charged with first-degree assault, evading responsibility in a serious injury, and reckless driving.

He is accused of driving his Honda at a high rate of speed across a parking lot, then striking the 47-year-old woman, NBC CT reported. She is in critical condition.

Video footage shows the woman walking in the parking lot when the car strikes her, throwing her onto the windshield, Hearst Connecticut Media reported. The driver then gets out, walks over to where the woman is lying on the ground, then says something to her before getting back in the car and leaving.

However, Assad said the situation was "a misunderstanding" and that he accidentally struck her, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.

He claims that he was getting used to the car's manual transmission and hit the gas instead of the clutch.

The plaza where the incident occurred is at 150 Barnum Ave. and also includes a ShopRite and a Home Depot.

According to online court records, Assad has posted a $300,000 bond and is due in court on Dec. 13.
