Milford Man Armed With Baseball Bat Breaks into Sleeping Resident's House: Police

Milford police say the man was swinging the bat aggressively at the victim as they arrived Sunday. BREAKING

MILFORD, CT — A city man armed with a baseball bat entered a house where the homeowner was sleeping and ended up on the front lawn swinging the bat in an "aggressive manner" toward the victim, police said.

Milford police arrived on scene and arrested the suspect before the homeowner was injured, but damage was done to the victim's house, police said.

On Sept. 18, police responded to a Hawley Avenue residence on the report of a possible home invasion, police said.

As police arrived on scene they observed a male, Michael Buonaiuto, 58, of Chapel Street in the front yard holding a broken baseball bat swinging it in an aggressive manner pointing the broken tipped end at another male in the yard, police said.

Investigation showed that Buonaiuto had previously gained entry into the home and was there to cause harm to a male who was sleeping inside, police said.

Buonaiuto told the male several times he was going to “kill him” using the baseball bat, police said. The homeowner was able to get Buonaiuto back out of his home and keep him out until police arrived, police said.

Buonaiuto was unable to harm the male, but managed to cause property damage with the baseball bat at the residence, police said.

Buonaiuto is charged with the following: second-degree breach of peace, second-degree threatening, third-degree criminal mischief, home invasion, criminal attempt to commit third-degree assault, and violation of a protective order.

Buonaiuto was released on a $50,000 bond to appear in Milford Court on October 11, 2016.
