Milford Man Wins $1 Million Lottery Prize

MILFORD, CT — Chance, luck and good karma. These are the factors that Russell Davis used to explain his massive “$1,000,000 Diamonds” top prize win, according to the Connecticut Lottery.

A few weeks ago, the Milford resident was out purchasing Lottery tickets when a clerk handed him too much change back. Davis wanted to do right and gave the money back.

“Hopefully karma kicks in soon,” the lucky winner thought, according to a news release from the Connecticut Lottery. Davis’ good deed certainly came back in full as he claimed a $1,000,000 prize at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill. $1,000,000 Diamonds top prizes are paid as a 20-year annuity or a one-time lump sum equivalent. Davis opted to select the lump sum option valued at $720,000.

When asked how he felt when revealing the top prize, Davis answered, “Disbelief. I just sat there and looked at [the ticket] 300 times. I called my brothers and after some small talk I asked, ‘Can you take a look at this ticket for me?’ Both my brothers flipped out!”

As a huge football fan, Davis looks to upgrade his seats to watch his favorite team up close in December. Most importantly, the million dollar winner told Lottery officials that he wants to pay bills and help out his family.

For selling the winning ticket, Sure Mart located on 695 Bridgeport Avenue in Milford, will receive a $10,000 check from the CT Lottery. Of the game’s 10 top prizes, 6 remain to be claimed.
