Milford Mayor Adds Police Positions In Proposed Budget
Mayor Anthony Giannattasio is calling for the addition of one police officer and to make two grant-funded positions permanent.

MILFORD, CT — Mayor Anthony Giannattasio has proposed adding positions to the police department in a proposed budget.
The city has 116 sworn police officers, dispatchers, and civilian personnel. The department has an annual budget of $15 million, according to a Facebook post from the city.
"Recently, the department added two civilian social workers to the team to further enhance their impact in the community," the post reads. "The social workers are an invaluable addition to the team and help individuals who are suffering from trauma, mental instability, and those who have fallen on hard times."

The positions have been funded by grants for the last two years. Under Giannattasio’s budget, these employees will be part of the departmental operating budget and will remain in the Milford Police Department.

- One new police officer to the force
- Increased funding for patrol vehicles
- Increased funding for traffic safety
- Increased funding for overtime to ensure appropriate police coverage in the city
- Funding to implement technological advancements, which will assist with crime prevention and traffic safety
Giannattasio’s proposed city government budget comes in at $147.8 million for the 2024-25 fiscal year, Hearst Connecticut reported. The budget represents a 0.77 percent increase over the current year.
