Milford Oyster Festival 2018: Here's What You Need To Know

MILFORD, CT — Each year the Milford Oyster Festival attracts more than 50,000 people to downtown Milford in the middle of August and one of the largest attractions, besides the oysters, is the musical headliner. And this year, the committee has hired Legendary Musician Eddie Money to perform.

Eddie Money has had a string of top 40 pop hits. The 44th annual Milford Oyster Festival will be held on Aug. 18. The Milford Oyster Festival has the largest variety of oysters at any US festival and there will be 40,000 oysters available on festival day. But beyond oysters, there will be 6,000 clams, craft beer, wine, tons of vendors and crafts, fun games for kids, and much more. Opening up for Eddie Money, will be John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band.

But before the festival kicks off Saturday, the pre-festival party begins Friday, Aug. 17 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Lisman Landing and downtown shops. To view the entertainment for Friday night, click here.

Eddie Money

According to the Milford Oyster Festival website, "Eddie Money has been rocking audiences for over 40 years..." ....Money's career took off with his 1977 debut album. "Baby Hold On" and "Two Tickets to Paradise" became quick hits and were followed by a stream of top 40 hits including "Think I'm in Love" and "Shakin." Another platinum hit was "Take Me Home Tonight" with Ronnie Spector.

John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band

According to the Milford Oyster Festival website, "From Rhode Island, they began their career in 1972 and achieved mainstream success in the 1980s with hits like "Wild Summer Nights'' and "Tender Years." They also did a number of movie soundtracks including 'Eddie & The Cruisers - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack' and On the Dark Side.'' Their hit song "Hearts on Fire'' was featured on "Rocky IV.""

Parking, shuttle buses and Road closures

Access to the Milford Center area will be restricted from the hours of 9:30 am-6:30 pm Saturday. The streets which will be closed and/or have limited access include: North Broad St, South Broad St, Depot St, New Haven Ave (from Gulf St to Daniel St), Prospect St (from Cherry St – New Haven Ave), River St (from Darina Pl to New Haven Ave), Armory La, Factory La, Shipyard La, Center St and High St (from Jepson Dr to Helwig St).

Access to the Railroad Station parking areas for railroad patrons will only be allowed from High Street. An Officer will be present at this traffic closure. On street parking will be restricted within the festival boundaries between 9:00 am – 6:30 pm.

Handicapped parking will be provided at the following locations:
Milford Senior Center, Harborside Middle School and Wasson Field parking lot adjacent to West Main Street. There will be senior and handicap accessible shuttle transportation to and from these locations which will pick up and drop off at Milford Fire HQ across from the Library.

Access to the City Boat Launch on Shipyard Lane will be restricted from 6:00 am – 7:30 pm. Pets and coolers will not be allowed within the festival boundaries.

Shuttle buses are being provided for festival patrons which will be picking up/dropping off at two locations in Milford: Jonathan Law High School and the rear parking lot of the Westfield Connecticut Post Shopping Mall.
