Cop Crashed Into Home's Front Porch, Chief Recommends Firing, Milford Police Say
A police officer has been arrested on charges tied to a February motor vehicle accident.
MILFORD, CT — A Milford police officer was charged with evading responsibility in a motor vehicle crash, and Police Chief Keith Mello has recommended the officer be terminated, according to a statement from police.
Michael Brennan, 41, of Milford, was arrested March 14. He was charged with evading responsibility, interfering with an officer, and traveling too fast for conditions, according to an arrest log.
Officers responded to a report of a car crashing into the porch of a New Haven Avenue home Feb. 28. The driver had left the scene of the accident, police said in a statement.

Mello said in a statement that following an internal investigation, he is recommending Brennan's firing.
The investigation found that Brennan "was not truthful regarding his involvement in the incident. Such conduct is a clear violation of the standards of integrity, accountability, and professionalism that are fundamental to this department and the law enforcement profession," according to Mello.
"Our community places its trust in us to uphold the law and to always conduct ourselves with integrity—both on and off duty. When that trust is compromised, it is our responsibility to take decisive action," Mello said.
The issue will be on the agenda of the next Board of Police Commissioners meeting, which is scheduled for Monday.
Court records show Brennan has not entered a plea in the case. He is due back in court May 20.
