Milford Police Officer Disciplined Over Incident with Harborside Student
The officer's on-duty conduct was investigated. The officer's son and the alleged victim had words, which prompted the incident.

Milford police officer Maria Frey received a one-day unpaid suspension for “inappropriate” behavior toward a Harborside Middle School eighth grader, who was involved in a verbal dispute with her son, the New Haven Register reports.
The complaint was filed by Lissette Cajigas on behalf of her 12-year-old son, Tony.
Frey’s son, also an eighth grader at Harborside, allegedly called the victim “short” and the victim shot back calling him in effect an idiot, the Register reports.

Nothing physical happened between the youths, but according to the complaint against Frey, she allegedly got into a verbal exchange with the victim about calling her son a name, the Register reports.
The boy told his parents he felt harassed and intimidated by Frey who was on duty at the time. The boy was on school grounds when the incident occurred in November.

Police Chief Keith Mello in a written report called Frey’s actions “inappropriate and not consistent with the standards and policies of this department,” according to the Register.
But some of Tony’s relatives believe that the punishment could have been more severe and what they really wanted is for Frey to apologize to their son.
