Milford Schools End Fiscal Year With $1 Million Surplus

School officials say the savings will be spent on much-needed projects and items.

MILFORD, CT — The Board of Education ended the fiscal year with a $1 million budget surplus and plans to spend the savings on vital building and grounds projects and for the purchase of needed equipment, furniture and computers, the Milford Mirror reports.

The funds could be spent on paving, sidewalk, and ground repairs at the two high schools and elementary schools, which could cost up to $400,000, the Mirror reports. Funds also may be spent on replacing cafeteria tables at Orchard Hill and Live Oaks schools and lockers at Harborside Middle and elementary schools.

The surplus funds were a result of savings in the retirement severance, teacher substitutes and teacher salaries accounts. The administration decides how the surplus funds will be spent.
