Milford Sets New Record for Dog Licensing in June

Milford, CT — July 3, 2025 — The City of Milford has set a new record for the number of dogs licensed in the month of June. City Clerk Pete Smith announced today that 2,002 Milford dogs were licensed last month—surpassing the previous record of 1,879 set in June 2024.

“This year we launched an aggressive social media campaign and received incredible support from the Animal Shelter Commission, Fire Department, and Public Works,” said Smith. “Milford residents responded with enthusiasm to license their furry friends.”

Smith also released the Top Dog name and Breed for June. “Luna” took the top spot as the most popular dog name, followed closely by Lucy, Bella, Charlie, and Oliver. Among the 2,002 dogs licensed, there were more than 1,093 unique names.

The Top Owner Reported Breed was the Labrador Retriever mix, followed by Labrador Retriever, Mixed Breed, Golden Retriever, and German Shepherd.

“No matter your dog’s name or breed, show them you love them by getting them licensed,” Smith added. “Licensing your dog keeps them safe, ensures they're protected, and helps them get home if they ever go missing.”

2025–2026 Dog License Information:
Licenses are valid from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026. A $1/month state-mandated late fee began accruing on July 1 for dogs not licensed by June 30.

To license your dog, you will need:

• A completed dog license application
• Current rabies vaccination certificate (on file)
• Proof of spay/neuter (if applicable)
• Payment (cash, check, money order, or credit card)

Fees:

• $8 (spayed/neutered) + $1 July state-mandated late fee
• $19 (non-spayed/non-neutered) + $1 July late fee
• $1 for mailing | $1.50 for credit card transactions
