Milford Standoff Ends After Several Hours

A standoff lasted more than 12 hours. Police found a rudimentary booby trap on the front door of the residence.

MILFORD, CT— A Milford man was taken to the hospital after a standoff that lasted more than 12 hours on Home Acres Avenue, according to police.

Police got a complaint about loud music around 4:30 a.m. Saturday. Officers found that John Katrick, 51, was playing music in his driveway, but he refused to speak with police. He was issued an infraction.

Officers went back to his house at 8 a.m. and found he was burning tires in his backyard. He threatened to kill officers if they trespassed on his property and then retreated inside his home, police said.

Katrick then placed what appeared to be a rifle against the window of the residence and shortly after closed all blinds in the residence, according to police.

Police set up a perimeter and tried to convince Katrick to leave the property. Around 8 p.m. officers heard what sounded like a gunshot within the residence. A robot was going to be deployed, but officers negotiated with Katrick to surrender. He was taken into custody around 11 p.m.
