MILFORD, CT — After a truck slammed into the Speedy Mart in Milford earlier this week, it could be as long as a year and a half before the store reopens. City Building Inspector Lou Reszoly told Hearst Connecticut Media that it was some of the worst structural damage he's ever seen.

The accident occurred when the pickup truck struck a car at the intersection of Meadowside Road and Surf Avenue at 12:26 p.m. Tuesday, then careened into the building.

One person was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and the other refused care.

The building's power was cut, and the area was taped off to prevent injuries from a potential collapse, according to Fire Battalion Chief and Public Information Officer Adam Hansen.

The building department found that the building was not structurally safe to be occupied.

Since then, workers have installed temporary supports to avoid collapse and boarded up the building, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.

However, the road ahead for reopening the business is a long one. The owners will need to obtain an insurance settlement, get permits, have the store reinspected, and find a contractor to perform the work, which could take four to six months.
