Milford to Welcome Two New K-9s to Police Department

The two dogs are part of a graduating class of 14 canines.

K-9 Zar and K-9 Zeus will join the Milford Police Department.

The State Police K-9 Training Unit announced the graduation of the 170th Patrol Dog Training Troop today. The graduation ceremony will be held Dec. 23, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Connecticut State Police Training Academy in Meriden.

The canine teams are all trained to work patrol and have been trained in the basic areas of tracking, handler protection, evidence recovery, building searches, obedience, and classroom education. For the canines, all German Shepherds, the graduation marks the culmination of a 14-week rigorous and intense training course.

Officer Sean Owens will be Zar’s handling officer and Officer Emily Covelli will be Zeus’ handling officer.
