More Details Released in Wrong-Way I-95 Milford Serious Accident: Report

MILFORD, CT - More details are available concerning a serious wrong-way accident on Interstate 95 early Saturday in Milford that resulted in 2 people suffering serious injuries.

Former Norwich Alderman Terrell Wilson, 24, who is a long-time member of the Norwich branch of the NAACP was struck head-on by a car driven by Shivam Patel of West Haven, the New London Day reports. Wilson served one term on the council from 2013-2015.

The accident is still under investigation but both Patel and Wilson suffered serious injuries that required extrication.

Milford fire officials have said that at 2:20 a.m. Saturday firefighters responded to I-95 North for a wrong way driver that caused a 2-car head on collision just prior to Exit 36, said Battalion Chief Anthony Fabrizi.

First arriving units found both drivers trapped inside their vehicles requiring extrication. The engine compartment of one vehicle was on fire, but was extinguished prior to the arrival of emergency crews, fire officials said.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life hydraulic tool and rapidly extricated the first male driver from the wreckage.

Milford Fire Paramedics initiated advanced life support measures on the scene due to the driver sustaining life threatening injuries, Fabrizi said in a statement. The patient was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital where his condition is unknown at this time.

The second vehicle sustained heavy front end damage, taking fire crews over 30 minutes to free the driver from the wreckage.

The second patient was conscious throughout the process and also received advanced level care from Milford Fire Paramedics. He was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital where his condition is unknown at this time as well.
