New Long-Range Forecast Reveals When Snow Is Most Likely In CT
A "powerful cyclone" near Iceland may be the catalyst for some upcoming changes to the weather in Connecticut. Here are the new details.
CONNECTICUT — Everyone knows that this winter has been a dud when it comes to snow and freezing cold temps and that will continue through at least the end of February but there is hope that will change beginning in March.
The National Weather Service says colder and wintry weather may be on the horizon for Connecticut and the Northeast. And it appears that a "powerful cyclone" near Iceland may be the reason for weather change.
"A pattern change? Possibly in early March per @NWSCPC 3-4 week outlook with Alaska trending to a warmer pattern & the Northeast including MA, RI and CT to a colder pattern. Possible culprit? Powerful cyclone (~920 mb!) near Iceland yesterday with hurricane force winds may contribute to a pattern change with more high latitude blocking. This would favor cold air being sustained for a longer period of time (less progressive). Thus longer duration of cold air available for wintry precipitation events. Obviously not etched in stone but worth watching how pattern evolves."

What About Now?

Once the rain and wintry mix tapers off Tuesday night, the weather forecast features sunny skies on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Temps will be in the low to mid 40s all week except for a brief cool down on Thursday and Friday where high temps will only be around the freezing mark.
