Popular Milford Doughnut Shop Closes After Decades

The news was met by sadness by long-time customers who will miss the place.

MILFORD, CT — A Milford institution that was more likely a family to many residents than a business is closing after 23 years. Olympic Donut at 124 Gulf Street will serve its last doughnut and cup of coffee today. The owner said Sunday that after 23 years of running the business it's time to retire.

The business, which has been run by the Benson family, has been a staple of the downtown where people would meet up and enjoy a classic doughnut, coffee and of course friendly conversation. Long-time customers were surprised by the news and said they will miss them. Here is a sampling of some of the comments, which were posted on the Milford Local Facebook page.

"Would go there once in awhile after church & my daughters would get their donuts & chocolate milk. Good memories of a cozy little place."
