Report: Demons Urged Chris Plaskon, 17, to Kill Maren Sanchez, 16

Plaskon appeared in court Tuesday. Sanchez's family wants the focus to remain on Maren.

Update: 2:15 p.m. After Chris Plaskon, 17, allegedly stabbed to death his Jonathan Law High School classmate, Maren Sanchez, 16, last April at the high school, he allegedly told police that “demons had urged him to kill” her, reports exclusively Daniel Tepfer of the Connecticut Post.

Plaskon allegedly told police that demons urged him to kill Sanchez, a source told Tepfer.

Plaskon allegedly wanted to buy a gun the Post reports, but his parents rejected that, and days prior to the stabbing students said they saw Plaskson “angrily debating with himself.”

Original post: One day after Christopher Plaskon’s attorneys say they plan an insanity defense, the prosecutors in the case received approval to hire their own mental health professional to evaluate the Milford teen, who is accused of killing Jonathan Law Junior Class President Maren Sanchez, 16, at the school last April.

Also on Tuesday an attorney representing Sanchez’s father, Jose, appeared in court and said he wants to keep the focus on Sanchez to ensure “accountability for her death.”

Plaskon, 17, appeared briefly in Superior Court, Milford on Tuesday.

On Monday, his attorneys filed notice regarding their plans to pursue an insanity defense.

“It is his intention to defend against the charges filed against him and rely on the affirmative defense that at the time of the alleged commission of the offense, he was suffering from a mental disease or defect and or extreme emotional disturbance,” the notice states.

Additionally, Plaskon’s attorneys plan to introduce expert testimony to support their defense.

After Tuesday’s hearing, Plaskon’s attorney, Richard T. Meehan said his client exhibited “certain behaviors” before the killing, which led them to pursue an insanity defense, reports the Hartford Courant.

He declined to elaborate.

Jose Sanchez’s attorney, Anthony Bonadies, issued the following statement to the media, “We’re here as promised, committed to stay the course that Maren Sanchez be front and center in the proceedings. She must remain in the hearts and minds of the decision makers at all times so there is accountability for her death, and for justice.” (The letter can be viewed below.)

The criminal case has been continued until July.

Plaskon is currently being held at the Manson Youth Institute in Cheshire on a $3 million bond.

Plaskon’s case will be presented to a three-judge panel rather than a traditional jury.

Background via the police report that was first released last April

When School Resource Officer James Kiely first met Christopher Plaskon in the principal’s office at Jonathan Law High School (on the date of the fatal stabbing) he saw the teen with bloody hands and blood-soaked clothes, according to the police report.

Plaskon told Kiely, “I did it. Just arrest me,” according to the police report which was released last year.

Plaskon was allegedly admitting he fatally stabbed Junior Class President Maren Sanchez, 16, in a stairwell at the school last April.

No motive is given in the police report, but sources said Plaskon stabbed Sanchez after she refused to go to the prom with him.

The report also reveals that a staff member witnessed Plaskon on top of Sanchez during the attack and unsuccessfully tried to pull him from the victim.

After Kiely met with Plaskon, he found Sanchez in grave condition, according to the report. The school was secured along with the crime scene by police.

Plaskon was taken into custody by police and secured in a police sedan before he was transported to police headquarters.

“Maren Sanchez suffered a violent attack and was seriously injured,” according to the police report.

She was transported to Bridgeport Hospital where she would die as a result of her injuries. The Medical Examiner’s Office concluded it was a homicide and Sanchez died as a result of stab wounds to the neck and trunk of her body.

A knife was recovered by police in a hallway near the crime scene, the report states. A witness saw Plaskon discard the bloody knife onto a hallway floor, the report states. That witness had pulled Plaskon from the scene, the report states.
