Rain To Snow On Tuesday: Here's When, How Much To Expect In CT

Here are new details on when Connecticut may expect to see snow on Tuesday and then we'll see huge weather changes.

CONNECTICUT — It appears several parts of Connecticut will see its first snowflakes of the season on Tuesday and there may even be some very minor accumulation, especially in northern Connecticut and inland sections of Southern Connecticut.

Areas along the immediate coast are also expected to see snowflakes but no real accumulation is expected here.

It's odd to think we'll see any snow on Tuesday because Veterans Day will be delightful with temps in the mid 50s, possibly approaching 60 degrees. The temps will only drop to around 40 degrees tonight but during the morning on Tuesday temps will drop like a rock and around noon the light rain is expected to change to a period of snow.

It will be cold enough to support snow by Tuesday afternoon but there won't be much precipitation left, which is why no one is expecting significant accumulation. Once the precipitation ends, we're headed toward record cold with temps falling into the teens Tuesday night and remaining bitterly cold through Wednesday.

For Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties, the National Weather Service says, "Rain will likely change to a brief period of snow across much of the region Tuesday as a strong cold front crosses the region. Snow accumulations of a coating to 1 inch are expected. There also is a low risk for a brief period of light freezing rain across portions of the interior, which if materialized would require a Winter Weather Advisory."

For Southern Connecticut, the weather service says, "A wave of low pressure then develops and moves northeast along the front tonight. This low will cross the area early Tuesday morning, sending a strong cold front through the region. As it does so, precipitation will overspread the region from west to east. While the precipitation will begin as rain, as cold air rushes in behind the front, the rain will transition to snow or a mix of rain and snow as precipitation comes to an end. The best chances for any accumulating snow will be inland across ... interior southern Connecticut. No accumulation is expected closer to the coast."

In Litchfield County, the weather service says, "Light accumulations of snow, sleet or freezing rain are possible tonight into Tuesday morning. Should confidence increase in light ice accumulations, a winter weather advisory may be needed. Falling temperatures on Tuesday could lead to hazardous travel conditions for the morning commute."
