Update: Cops ID Women, 1 Killed, 1 Injured In Bar Fall

Traci Kiriakou, 31, was killed when she and Michelle Marcello of Mystic fell down stairs at a Westerly, RI bar. Marcello, 31, was injured.

WESTERLY, RI — An Old Mystic woman was hurt and her friend killed when the two fell down concrete stairs at a Westerly bar last Friday night, Police Chief Shawn Lacey told Patch.

Traci Kiriakou, 31, of Westerly was killed. Michelle Marcello, 31, of Old Mystic, was hurt but treated and released from the hospital.

It happened at around 9 p.m. Nov. 8 when cops were called to the Hilltop Cafe on Canal Street in Westerly's North End. Lacey said that when officers got there, they found the two women had fallen down a set of concrete steps leading to the bar's basement / liquor stock room.

Kiriakou was unconscious at the bottom of the stairs and Marcello was able to get up the stairs to get help, Lacey said. Westerly Ambulance arrived and began treating both women. Kiriakou was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where she died.

Marcello was taken to Westerly Hospital, was treated and released.

Lacey said police were told by people in the bar that the women "were friends and indicated they were in the bar and went outside to have a cigarette. Shortly after, they found that both fell down the stairs outside of the side entrance."

Kiriakou, formerly of Oakdale, was the mother of two young daughters.

Lacey said an autopsy was underway Tuesday by the Rhode Island medical examiner. He said the incident remains under investigation.
