Republicans Deny Representation to Milford’s 2nd District

A message from the Democrats on the Milford Board of Aldermen

This week, the mayor’s Republican party voted to deny Milford’s 2nd District full representation on the Board of Aldermen by rejecting Toni Lombardi as a replacement for outgoing Alderman Ward Willis. No explanation was given during the meeting—but the Milford Republicans’ own words on social media last month reveal a striking contrast.

When a 1st District seat opened last month, they wrote:

“The Republican Aldermen joined the Democratic Aldermen to unanimously appoint Christopher Hite as the new alderman in the first district, despite the fact that with a missing alderman, the board would have been tied 7-7 until after the next election.

This was done because of the respect we have for precedent and our belief that the citizens of Milford's first district deserve full representation.”

So what changed? Why doesn’t the 2nd District deserve full representation too?

This action is more than a single vote—it undermines long-standing precedent and denies thousands of residents in the 2nd District a voice on the Board of Aldermen, weakening the representative process Milford has relied on throughout its history.
