MILFORD, CT — Richard Smith, Milford’s incumbent Democratic Town Committee chairman, was reelected to a ninth term. Smith is the first chairperson in Milford to hold this position for a record-breaking sixteen years.

“While the thought of retiring had crossed my mind, I felt compelled to continue,” Smith said. “With our democratic values being eroded at the national level, now more than ever we need strong leadership and continued unity locally. It is a privilege to serve our Milford Democratic Town Committee as well as our partners in Orange and West Haven. I’m proud of the relationships we’ve cultivated over the years.”

Under Smith’s leadership, the Democratic Party in Milford has established majorities on every elected board: Aldermen, Education and Planning and Zoning. In addition, Karen Fortunati won the City Clerk office and Mayor Ben Blake now serves his sixth term.

A graduate of Yale, Smith studied political science with a concentration in American government. He also studied political science and public policy at Trinity College in Hartford. A campaign veteran, Smith began his door knocking years in high school and hasn’t missed a year yet.
