Slossberg Presented with Distinguished Lawmaker Award

The award was presented by the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE).

Senator Gayle Slossberg (D-Milford) and Representative Andy Fleischmann (D-West Hartford), Co-Chairs of the General Assembly’s Education Committee were thanked today for their work promoting public education in Connecticut, according to a prepared statement released by Slossberg's office.

Both legislators were presented with the “Distinguished Legislator Award” by the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE).

"It is very meaningful to receive this award from a group of people who are on the front lines of public education issues here in Connecticut,” said Senator Slossberg in a statement. “Our work in the General Assembly would not be nearly as effective without the input of board of education members. I thank them for their efforts and encourage their continued involvement as we work to provide Connecticut’s students with the best possible learning environment so that they emerge from high school strong, educated and engaged.”

CABE President Ann Gruenberg introduced Slossberg at the event, saying in a statement, “Senator Gayle Slossberg has jumped into her leadership role on the Education Committee with a warm spirit of involving many in her decision process. She represents the towns of Milford, Orange and West Haven and has been in the legislature since 2005. Whether it’s a late night call just to get our perspective on a concept or seeking us out for language to better draft a bill, we have always been appreciative. She has been a legislative breakfast advocate and has appreciated the perspective of many districts. She has even dedicated time with one of her local BOE to help them along.”

As Senate Chair of the Education Committee, Slossberg works with CABE to support school districts throughout Connecticut. This year they are working on legislation that aims to address the achievement gap, reduce constraints and provide incentives that will help schools improve their educational offerings, and ensure that the state continues to support existing education initiatives.
