MILFORD, CT — The Planning and Zoning Board voted unanimously at its Jan. 21 meeting to accept a donation of a small property that's expected to be kept as open space.

The space is a .17-acre parcel at 0 Northmoor Road.

Milford Open Space and Sustainability Manager Jeremy Grant addressed a board question about back taxes on the property, which amount to $131.

He also addressed questions regarding possible contamination of the property. Grant said the parcel was created in a 1920s subdivision and has not been developed. It also doesn't abut commercial property.

"There's no reason to believe there's any contamination on it," he said at the board meeting.

Grant said keeping the land as open space would protect against flooding. It would also be in line with the city's Plan of Conservation Development as it abuts open space.

A board member asked whether there were any dumping or conservation issues with the property. Grant said that there has been residential yard waste dumping on the property and recommended that Public Works install a no-dumping sign.
