Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Southern Connecticut As Strong Storm Emerges
The National Weather Service has already issued a hazardous weather outlook for the strong storm. Here are the latest updates.
SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service on Tuesday has already issued a hazardous weather outlook for Thursday in Connecticut. A strong storm is expected to dump a couple of inches of rain on the area, and strong wind gusts are also expected.
"An approaching cold front on Thursday will result in widespread moderate to locally heavy rainfall along with gusty winds," the weather service said. "A widespread 1-1.5" of rainfall is expected, with locally higher totals possible. While widespread flooding is not expected at this time, there is potential for localized flash flooding."
The heaviest rain is forecast for Thursday afternoon and night. The greatest chance for flooding is in the western portions of southern Connecticut, the weather service said. There is a low chance of thunderstorms in Connecticut on Thursday.

Wind gusts between 30-40 mph are possible in southern Connecticut Thursday night and early Friday.
Accuweather.com said the storm could bring thunderstorms to the area, though it depends on how fast the storm moves. If the storm moves quickly then strong storms and "potentially damaging winds" are more likely, but if the track is "more slowly, winds would be weaker."

"... Additionally, unlike in the spring and summer, some of these storms may not produce large amounts of thunder and lightning, which may allow them to catch some residents by surprise," Accuweather.com said. (Read more forecast details at Accuweather.com)

Here are the southern Connecticut weather forecast details via the National Weather Service:
Today: Sunny, with a high near 68. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the afternoon.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Light west wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning.
Thursday: A chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. High near 70. South wind 10 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Thursday Night: Showers, mainly before 2am. Low around 56. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers before 8am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 68.
Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 65.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 65.
