Teen's death mourned, community rallies to assist family

A Connecticut community is mourning the death of a teenager who was involved in a car accident on Friday afternoon. Steven D. Zichichi, 18, of Killingworth, was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed into a tree on Route 154 in Haddam, state police said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up and already $23,000 has been raised thus far. On the page it states that, "Knowing Steve, growing up he was the hardest working kid you'd ever come across, and knowing Steve was a blessing, and to see this happen to his family, we are going to be raising money to honor his memory and support his family, fly high Steven Z." According to his obituary listed at Porto Funeral Home, Steven was employed by Anytime Fitness of Deep River in membership sales. "He was especially proud to be an uncle – always wishing to spend more time with his nephew, Jordan. His connection with his twin brother, Drew, was beyond compare." He was working toward being a personal trainer.

"Steven always had a positive outlook on life and would always say, “A smile is the most effective medicine.” Steven may be gone from this earth, but his beautiful soul will always be remembered in all of our minds and hearts," his obituary reads.

5 hospitalized after crash involving a bus

Officials say five people were hospitalized after a vehicle and a CT Transit bus were involved in a crash in East Haven on Sunday, NBC CT reported. (Read more here).

2 firefighters injured, dog died in blaze

Late Sunday, Stamford firefighters responded to a blaze in a multi-family residence at 295 Cove Road. The fire was quickly contained and didn't spread to adjacent units, fire officials said. Two firefighters were injured, and a dog died in the blaze. The fire is under investigation.

UConn basketball teams make NCAA tournament

The UConn men's basketball team will play New Mexico State on Thursday in Buffalo, while the UConn women's basketball team plays its first game at home on Saturday against Mercer. Yale's men's basketball team also made the NCAA tournament. (Read more here).
