This Winter Is Taking a Toll: Why Calming the Nervous System Matters
With more snow in the forecast, many Connecticut residents are still feeling the effects of this winter stretch.

After the recent blizzard, followed by more snow this week and additional storms in the forecast, many Connecticut residents are feeling the cumulative effects of this winter.
After several milder seasons, the return of repeated snow removal, cold exposure, and physical strain can leave the body feeling sore, fatigued, and unusually tense. Some people are also noticing disrupted sleep, irritability, or difficulty relaxing.
These sensations are not only physical. Repeated exertion, cold temperatures, and pushing through fatigue can keep the nervous system in a prolonged stress response. As storms pass and preparations continue, the body needs time to shift out of that heightened state and return to balance.

• warmth such as showers, baths, or heating pads
• gentle stretching or slow movement
• slow steady breathing
• hydration and extra rest
• listening to a relaxing hypnosis or guided relaxation recording
Sometimes the most restorative thing we can do is slow down long enough for the body to reset. (I like to think of it as slowing down to get back to speed LOL.)
