The night clerk’s description of the shoplifters and their car matched what Ludwig and Leite-Jesus were wearing and the Honda they were riding in, police said.
The officer continued to follow the Honda and observed erratic operation and stopped the Honda on East Village Road at Webb Circle.
Upon approaching the operator, Ludwig, officers observed that his pupils were extremely pin-point, his speech was slurred and he seemed to fall asleep while speaking, police said.
A strong odor of marijuana was coming from inside the Honda. The department’s K-9 conducted a sniff of the Honda and alerted to the presence of illegal drugs, police said.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers located 51 Alprazolam tablets, five Amphetamine dextroamphetamine tables, 13 Gabapentin tablets, 1.4 grams of marijuana and $791.00 in cash, police said.
Also found in the Honda, and later determined to be stolen from Henny Penny were three cigarette lighters, three cell phone cases, a can of Redbull energy drink and several large dog biscuits, police said.
Ludwig failed standardized field sobriety tests and charged with driving while under the influence. Both were placed under arrest for the larceny and narcotics charges and transported to the police department for booking.
