A Business Breakfast to Nourish Masuk Programs

First selectman and superintendent hope local businesses will sponsor sports and the arts.

Business leaders are invited to start their day with a breakfast in the Masuk High School library on Sept. 27, where they will learn how they can support school programs such as sports, theater and music.

First Selectman Steve Vavrek and Supt. of Schools Colleen Palmer, who worked together to organize the event, are hoping they will seize these sponsorship opportunities.

Amid tough economic times, Vavrek believes private sources of revenue can help suppliment the town budget and give cash-strapped taxpayers some relief.

"Dr. Palmer and I thought this was a necessary step," Vavrek said.

So far, Sippin Energy and Aquarion Water Co. have accepted the invitation so far and the first selectman hopes more businesses will save the date.
